Sono stati assegnati nella notte del 28 febbraio al Dolby theatre di Los Angeles i premi Oscar 2016. Il miglior film dell’88ª edizione è Il caso Spotlight, film d’inchiesta su un gruppo di giornalisti del Boston Globe che indagano sui casi di pedofilia nella Chiesa Cattolica a Boston. Nessuno potrà più sbizzarrirsi online con meme, prese in giro e giochini vari, perché Leonardo DiCaprio ha finalmente vinto il suo tanto agoniato primo Oscar quale miglior attore protagonista in Revenant – Redivivo. L’Oscar per la miglior regia se lo aggiudica il messicano Alejandro Gonzales Iñárritu per Revenant – Redivivo. Ennio Morricone ha vinto il premio per la miglior colonna sonora per The Hateful Eight di Quentin Tarantino. Anche per lui si tratta del primo Oscar, dopo quello alla carriera ricevuto nel 2007. L’Oscar per il miglior film in lingua straniera va in Ungheria e se lo aggiudica Il figlio di Saul di László Nemes.
